About the garment
A traditional Kanjivaram heirloom saree in deep oxblood with a contrast gold pallu and a temple-motif border. Heavy in the way Kanjivaram should be heavy — you feel it on the shoulder and you know it.
The craft
Woven on the temple-town looms of Kanchipuram using three separate silk threads — body, border, and pallu — joined by a join called korvai, so seamless you have to look for the seam. The zari is real gold-plated silver thread, weighed by the gram, woven in.
Styling notes
- Pair with temple jewellery — long haram, jhumkas, vanki
- Hair in a plait with flowers (mogra or jasmine), traditionally
- Maroon or oxblood blouse with gold borders — never plain
Care notes
- Dry-clean specialist Kanjivaram cleaner only — generic dry-cleaners will damage the zari
- Wrap in muslin · refold every six months
- Will last 30+ years if cared for · this is an heirloom, treat it like one
